Previous Project Updates

Care Packages Project

Thank you for everyone who donated during our donation drive, and to everyone who helped to put together and deliver our care packages! It was a major success. With your help we were able to make 52 care packages and bring them to homeless individuals in need! Be on the lookout for future civic engagement opportunities.

Ongoing Projects

Generation Citizen

Generation Citizen is a great program for UCO students to get involved in their community through teaching younger students (age middle school to high school) about civic engagement. More specifically, it is a nonprofit organization that teaches Oklahoma students how to affect change and solve problems in their community. It is designed such that volunteers, UCO and other college students, become Democracy Coaches who go to a classroom twice a week for a 50 min period to teach the generation citizen program to students in middle school or high school. The program guides students on how to solve problems in their community. Democracy Coaches help students to define what their community is, define the problems faced in their community, and then to create a program to change or fix a problem that the students choose to fix. More details about this project can be found at generationcitizen.org.

In order for the program to launch in Edmond next year, Generation Citizen needs people to commit to becoming a Democracy Coach. A Democracy Coach is asked to commit to two training sessions and 3 hours a week (two 50 min class periods, and a once a week 1 hour meeting) for about 6-7 weeks. It is a volunteer activity, and since generation citizen has partnered with many different organizations and universities in the area it is a great opportunity to network. Please contact adp@uco.edu if you are interested.
