Labyrinths in Higher Education Instructional Practice

Within contemplative pedagogy, labyrinths are one form of “active meditative practice.” UCO’s labyrinth is the first at a public university in Oklahoma, and it is perfectly suited to our campus for a number of reasons, one of which is that contemplative instructional practice can be a key strategy which prompts for Transformative Learning experiences. Another is that labyrinth walking, as a form of active meditation, benefits students’
cognition and attention (see the Brief Mindfulness Training Improves Cognition resource from the Contemplative Pedagogy page).
