Tutoring Central at the University of Central Oklahoma
TC Frequently Asked Questions:
How many hours of tutoring can I have a week?
All UCO students may receive up to 2 hours per week of one-on- one
tutoring. If a student exceeds the allotted two hours per week, walk-in
appointments are always welcome, but students may have to wait for
their tutor’s next unscheduled time.
What happens if I miss an appointment?
If you are more than ten minutes late without alerting your tutor, you
will lose your appointment time. Please call or email if you must miss
or come in late. After two no-show appointments, you will be locked
out of the system and unable to schedule appointments. To be
reinstated, you will need to submit a 250-word essay explaining why
you did not follow the no-show agreement and understanding of it for
review by TC staff.
Do I have to make an appointment or can I just walk in for help?
Walk-in appointments are always welcome, but we encourage
students to make appointments in order to ensure a timeslot with a
tutor in their subject area.
Does tutoring cost?
All Tutoring Central services are provided at no additional cost for
current UCO students.
What resources does the TC have available to students?
Tutoring Central offers one-on- one tutoring, Conversation Central
24/7 online tutoring, the Supplemental Instruction program, and Study
Central, as well as handouts and reference materials for coursework.
What do I need to bring to an appointment?
Decide what you want the tutor to focus on prior to your appointment
time, and be clear about the assignment and instructions from your
teacher. Bring all materials related to the course or assignment, such
as your textbook, assignment sheet, and homework. Papers should be
printed before the appointment; the TC will not print your paper for
What are the differences between TC tutoring and the online tutoring? Is it the same tutors?
TC tutoring takes place in a one-on- one format during center hours.
All TC tutors are UCO student employees. TC tutors offer assistance
with writing for all subjects, lower level math, biology, and chemistry.
Online tutoring through Tutor.com is offered 24/7 and utilizes a network of professional tutors nationwide to help with a broad range of subjects.
I want to volunteer for Conversation Central, how do I do that?
Native speakers of English are always welcome to contact the TC via
phone or email in order to volunteer for Conversation Central. It is a
fun and relaxed environment in which non-native English speakers
practice their second language skills. Native English speakers may
participate in group sessions, receive a “Proof of Volunteering” card,
and apply the time spent with the group as volunteer service hours.
