Housing and Dining: Policies and Procedures
Your personal safety and the protection of your possessions require a joint effort between you and the University. Any behavior that jeopardizes the safety of residents or staff is prohibited. Below is information on policies and procedures in place to ensure a safe living environment for all residents.
Keys and Building Security
- Each resident will be issued a key to his/her assigned room. It is a violation of policy to duplicate this key or loan it to anyone else. If you lose your room key, you are expected to report this loss immediately to the hall desk. You will be billed for the cost of key replacement.
- One of the most important factors in providing a safe environment is personal prevention. Students should lock their room/unit doors at all times, including when you are home and when you leave your room, even if it is just to walk down the hall for a minute or two.
- Students may not offer room keys to other individuals. Keys are for the sole use of the person to whom they are issued.
- Residence halls are only as safe and secure as residents help to keep them. To protect the safety and security of all residents, do not let anyone have access to the building by holding open the door or propping the door open. Any unsafe situations you cannot correct, such as lights out in a stairwell, safety hazards, etc., should be reported to a building staff member as soon as possible.
- If you have guests, you are responsible for their actions and must escort them at all times.
Tornado Shelter Protocol
Each residence hall has a designated tornado shelter. When the sirens in the Edmond area are sounded, residents should go to their designated shelter until the all-clear signal is given.
- West Hall, University Suites, University Commons and Murdaugh Hall all utilize the Max Chambers Library Basement in the event of a tornado warning.
- Residents in the Quad should go to the Quad basement in the event of a tornado warning.
Fire Evacuation Protocol
Each residence hall has a designated fire evacuation point. When the fire alarms in a residence hall begin to sound, residents should evacuate to the designated location until the all-clear signal is given.
Alcohol and Controlled Substances
The use or possession of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on campus. The university reserves the right to confiscate and dispose of alcoholic beverages and/or containers found on the premises. The use, possession, or distribution of any illegal stimulant, depressant, hallucinogenic, or narcotic drug in or around the Housing facilities is prohibited. Empty alcohol containers and brewing equipment are similarly prohibited.
