Emergency Management Unit

UCO was the first university in the state of Oklahoma to hire a full-time emergency management coordinator to handle emergency management issues on campus.  UCO is also the only university in the state of Oklahoma to have its Disaster Resistant University (DRU) grant approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  A DRU is a hazard mitigation plan that allows approved universities to apply for grants in order to meet the goals set forth by the DRU. 

The UCO Emergency Management Unit is made up of the Director of Emergency Management and the Executive Director of Public Safety with support from other elements of the Department of Public Safety.  UCO Emergency Management is here to provide emergency preparedness training and guidance to the UCO campus.

On October 4, 2012, UCO's Emergency Management Unit conducted the university’s first-ever “Shelter-in-Place /Lockdown” exercise.  The exercise consisted of all Central faculty, staff, students, and visitors practicing the procedures that would take place in an actual shelter-in-place/lockdown situation.  If you are UCO faculty or staff, please click here for instructions and information.  If you are a student or visitor to our campus, please click here for instructions and information.
