Our state and nation are all too aware of how dangerous the world has become and how important it is that our educational institutions are able to respond to emergency situations in a prompt, professional and coordinated manner.
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) has been developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education to provide a consistent, nationwide approach that enables federal, state, local and tribal governments to work together to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from domestic incidents.
To assure the safety of the University of Central Oklahoma's students, faculty, staff and campus visitors, it is essential that we implement NIMS training, exercises and other activities necessary to self-certify that we are in compliance with the NIMS objectives. The process will improve the relationship between UCO and local community public safety partners and significantly enhance our institution's ability to deal with emergency situations.
The University of Central Oklahoma is committed to this goal! By providing NIMS and Incident Command System (ICS) training, we are ensuring that UCO will remain NIMS compliant as set forth by the Campus Life and Security and Safety (CLASS) Task Force.
NIMS/ICS training is being provided to the UCO community at no cost on the following dates:
