Q:  What is CCTV?

A:  Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited amount of monitors.  Closed-circuit system differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted.  CCTV is primarily used for surveillance and security purposes.

Q:  Why is UCO installing security cameras?

A: The purpose of CCTV monitoring is to deter crime and to protect the safety and property of the University community. 

Q:  Where will the cameras be located and will people be notified that a given area is being monitored?

A:  UCO will be posting signs indicating that the campus is subject to video surveillance to remind people that their actions may be monitored to deter anyone from engaging in criminal activity. Please see Policy for the list of unacceptable areas to install CCTV cameras.    

Q:  Who watches the cameras and who can view recorded material?

A:   Please refer to Policy and Procedures.

Q:  What assurances are there that our privacy is not going to be invaded?

A:  The appropriate measures will be taken to protect an individual’s right to privacy and hold university information securely through its creation, storage, transmission, use and deletion. To Report complaints regarding abuse please contact UCO police services. 


Q:  How do I request access to view cameras?

A:  To request access please contact the Service Desk in order to further assist you. UCO Police services will manage the overall system inclusive of administrative rights in partnership with each department. 

Q:  Can I view my department’s cameras from off campus?

A:  Yes, In order to view the cameras from off of UCO’s network you will need to follow this process…  (Process coming soon)

Q:  Can I view my department’s cameras from a mobile device?

A:  Yes, In order to view the cameras from a mobile device you will need to download the ACC mobile client app from either iTunes or Google Play store.  After install of mobile device app you will need the following to connect:  Username, Password, and Gateway.  (At this time gateway has not been setup)


Q:  Where can I find information on what cameras will be used?

A:  Please visit Avigilon camera product page. 

Q:  What do I do if my department is having issues with a camera not working correctly?

A:  Although UCO staff will be conducting system inspections if you notice any issues with your departments cameras please contact the Service Desk in order to resolve the issue.

Q:  Can I request training on how to properly use camera?

A:  Yes, training on the video management system and cameras will be provided after the installation is complete.  Training can also be provided by scheduling with Service Desk.

Q:  How does my department participate?

A:  Please refer to Policy and Procedures for departments or divisions that are interested in participating in the video surveillance.
