Military Veterans

UCO is a great choice for the student/veteran or veteran dependent. Our Office of Veteran Student Support is second to none and our students, faculty, and staff appreciate your service and your family's sacrifice. Our veteran center is staffed with veterans who understand your challenges and are committed to your support. All of our student workers are on the VA student worker program and are veterans as well.

UCO's Office of Veteran Student Support (VSS) is here to support the student veteran and veteran dependents in their quest for a quality college education at the state's #1 ranked college for veterans dependent population is in the top 2% nationally. We service all veterans and their dependents whether they are currently receiving GI Bill benefits or not. Below are just some of the things that are available:

The Veterans Higher Education Resource Office, "VetHERO" consists of our student/veteran workers who are here to help you in your transition. Let us know what assistance you need and we will help you with it or refer you to those who can. We have laptops with CAC Readers for your use in the VetHERO area or lounge. Make yourself at home and help yourself to a complimentary soda, water, or coffee.

Student Support Services Serving America's Leaders Using Transformative Education (SSS SALUTE) is a program that aims to increase both the academic and non-cognitive successes of veterans so that they can become engaged citizens and leaders in their community. Eligible veterans will receive the targeted services to overcome personal, career, and academic challenges - advising, near peer coaching, financial aid advising, FAFSA one-on-one assistance, skills workshops, graduate prep curriculum, research opportunities, social and cultural events, and grant aid.

UCO's Student Veterans of America (SVA) Chapter is known as "Central Veterans" and is a student organization that provides peer-to-peer networks for veterans who are attending UCO. They coordinate campus activities, provide pre-professional networking, and generally provide a touchstone for student veterans in higher education. Activities include: Thunder basketball games, National SVA Convention, Cookouts, Paintball, and more. Check us out on Facebook or Twitter.

The University of Central Oklahoma Army Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) is a program designed to develop and train prospective Army Officers. College students take ROTC classes and participate in related activities along with their normal college degree program, becoming an officer cadet and learning valuable leadership skills that are well-suited for either a military or civilian job.

Through our partnerships with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) at Ft. Sill, OKC VA, and the Edmond Community, the UCO Wellness Center Military Sports Program serves to provide experiential opportunities for service men, women, and veterans who have sustained physical injuries such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, visual impairment/blindness, and stroke, to transition to a healthy lifestyle and foster community engagement, while introducing Paralympic sport based activities and other recreational activities. We do this by offering various Paralympic sport based programs as well as other recreational programs which cater to varying groups of individuals who have different levels of ability. Additionally, our on-campus clinic located in the UCO Wellness Center accepts Tri-Care, making it much more convenient to see a doctor for those that qualify.
