The Central Six

At the University of Central Oklahoma, we are guided by the mission of helping students learn by providing Transformative Learning experiences so that they may become productive, creative, ethical and engaged citizens and leaders contributing to the intellectual, cultural, economic and social advancement of the communities they serve.

Transformative Learning @ UCO Defined

Transformative Learning is a holistic process that places students at the center of their own active and reflective learning experiences. Transformative Learning:

  • develops beyond-disciplinary skills and
  • expands students’ perspectives of their relationships with self, others, community and environment.

 (definition adopted Spring 2015)

Central 6 Core Value Tenets

As a result of both our mission and our concept of Transformative Learning, a student's major field of study is central to the learning experience and is a vital part of the Central Six. This is captured through the tenet of Discipline Knowledge.

STLR, the Student Transformative Learning Record, measures and records a student's transformation across the other five core tenets:

These experiences are recorded in University databases and displayed via students' online Dashboard, STLR Printout pages, and in their ePortfolios.
