Call for Proposals

We invite you to submit a proposal for the 2020 Transformative Learning Conference – “[theme here].” The call for proposals is open August 19, 2019 through Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:59 pm.

  • Title (12 words max)
  • Abstract for program (250 words max)
  • Full proposal for review (500 words max)

If you believe you have information (e.g., a summary or other material) that participants would value please bring 10-15 handouts.

Conference Formats

45-Minute Interactive Session

These interactive sessions can constitute either an individual presenter or a panel (the proposer puts the panel together) of presenters.

The session content should focus on one conference thread and include an area of transformative learning investigation, application, strategy, or experience. Content should also include evidence-based research or practice with measures of student learning. The presenter should utilize interactive strategy and learning outcomes or attendee takeaways.

Poster Session

The poster sessions will be divided among a) undergraduate student only, b) undergraduate student co-collaborated with faculty or graduate student,  and c) faculty or graduate student.

Poster sessions are designed to provide opportunities for participants to share research, practice, or innovation with transformative learning. This is an ideal framework for emerging work where collaborative feedback is desired. At least one author needs to be present during the designated poster session time. Included in the proposal should be a statement on how the poster relates to one the conference threads.

The maximum poster size is 42 inches x 42 inches. 

The poster should be printed for attaching to a poster stand. Supplies for attaching the posters will be available.   

First, second, and third place will be awarded in the Undergraduate Student category.

The Review Process

The Call for Proposals closes Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:59 pm. All abstracts will undergo a blind-review process by three individuals within and outside the University of Central Oklahoma.

  • The abstracts will be rated on a 1-4 scale.
  • Author(s) will be notified by email by January 13, 2020 at the latest.
  • Accepted authors that have not registered for the Conference by March 6, 2020 will be withdrawn from the program.
  • Only authors who are present at the Conference to present will have their names printed in the program.

Abstracts will be evaluated on a 1 – 4 scale (with 1 representing STRONGLY DISAGREE, 2 representing DISAGREE, 3 representing AGREE, and 4 representing STRONGLY AGREE) in the following areas:

  1. Includes evidence-based research or practices
  2. Includes an area of transformative learning investigation, application, strategy, or an experience
  3. Provides for audience interaction
  4. Is of interest to a broad audience
  5. Includes learning outcomes or takeaways
  6. Is innovative or adds original ideas
  7. Is relevant to creating an environment for transformative learning under the thread for which it was submitted
  8. Students or student voices are included in the presentation

Each session will have session evaluations

If there is no person in the room handing out session evaluations, please locate the material, complete it, and place it in an envelope at the front of the room.
