Dr. Melissa Powers joined the University of Central Oklahoma's Department of Kinesiology & Health Studies faculty in the fall of 2007. Prior to this, she was the Program Coordinator in the Office for Studies on Aging at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Powers has been teaching fitness classes for older adults for over 10 years. Her favorite classes to teach are resistance training and balance classes. Dr. Melissa Powers' passion for research centers on physical activity promotion among senior adults has led to the creation of CALL. She has conducted a resistance training study among adults over 75 years of age. Dr. Melissa Powers also maintains an active membership in the American College of Sports Medicine, Gerontological Society of America, Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, and the Council on Aging and Adult Development of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Catherine Patrick is the program coordinator for CALL. She also teaches classes at the UCO Wellness Center and SAIL classes throughout the community. When she was young, her grandmother introduced the importance of health while they exercised using food cans. This established a strong curiosity about the human body, its function and how mindful movement can maintain and improve health. Inspiring and helping others to discover their own personal health benefits through exercise is Catherine’s passion.
Bianca Smith is a Junior at the University of Central Oklahoma and studying Kinesiology Exercise and Fitness Management program. She is a wife and mother of two young boys who keep her very busy. She is a certified SAIL instructor and teaches classes both at UCO and in the surrounding communities. Her passion for helping others comes from years of experiences being a CNA. After graduating Bianca hopes to continue her passion by helping others stay active and healthy for as long as possible.
Abigayle Willis is a Senior at the University of Central Oklahoma and is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. After Abigayle graduates she plans to get her Masters in Athletic Training where she hopes to make an uplifting and positive impact wherever she goes. Abigayle is certified in SAIL and has a passion for all physical activity which shows when she teaches her classes. She also has a love for shoes and dark chocolate.
Destiny Oliganga is an undergraduate student completing her last year at the University of Central Oklahoma in the Kinesiology Exercise and Fitness Management program. Destiny is passionate about assisting, serving, and making a difference. She is excited to gain her experience by leading LIFT and BALL classes at UCO. Upon graduating she will take her passion for exercise and fitness management and pursue a career in Physical Therapy specializing in rehabilitation.
Kailyn Giertz is a sophomore pursuing a degree in Kinesiology-Exercise Fitness Management. She plans on entering the field of physical therapy. She teaches SAIL classes on campus and in the community. Kailyn loves working with people of all ages and helping them improve physically.
Marlee Maloy is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Kinesiology-Exercise and Fitness Management at the University of Central Oklahoma. Marlee is passionate about mindfulness, movement, and healthy living for all ages. She is interested in working with special populations to make exercise accessible for all. She recently became a registered 200hr Yoga Instructor and ACE Certified Personal Trainer. She is excited to utilize this knowledge by leading the MOVE and BALL classes at UCO.
Chris Larrauri is an intern for CALL. He is currently a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma pursuing a degree in Kinesiology-Exercise and Fitness Management. After graduation, he intends on becoming a graduate student in Exercise Science. Chris is passionate about coaching and plans to continue coaching as his career. Chris teaches both SAIL and SPRT class.
Danyelle Dyer is an Undergraduate Student pursuing a degree in Kinesiology-Exercise and Fitness Management. She plans on attending graduate school in the future to obtain a Masters in Exercise Science. She teaches BALL and LIFT classes for CALL on campus as well as SAIL classes in the community. Danyelle loves working with old adults and has found a passion for serving the older generations that she believes will carry over into her future career.
