Ms. Nicole Mercer is a Clinical Supervisor at the University of Central Oklahoma Scott F. McLaughlin Speech and Hearing Clinic. She also serves as the supervisor for the Oklahoma School for the Deaf Edmond Regional Preschool and instructs the Beginning Signing Exact English class and the Intermediate Signing Exact English class at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Ms. Mercer completed her undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Central Oklahoma and was appointed as a Graduate Assistant in the Oklahoma School for the Deaf Edmond Regional Preschool during her first year of graduate school. This internship solidified her desire to work with students with hearing loss. Ms. Mercer worked with Oklahoma City Public Schools from 2004 to 2014. During her tenure with OKCPS, she served elementary students in Deaf/Hard of Hearing self-contained classrooms. Ms. Mercer worked with students of varying needs from diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ms. Mercer’s main area of interest continues to be serving students with hearing loss. She desires for every student with hearing loss to be equipped with language skills that will allow him or her to be successful in a classroom setting. Ms. Mercer seeks every opportunity to learn about new hearing technology, believing this is a vital component in serving children with hearing loss and teaching university students about the devices they will encounter in professional practice.
Ms. Mercer loves to share her passion for Sign Language and skill sets for working with students with hearing loss with the university students she supervises.
