College of Fine Arts and Design

The UCO Band program's primary goal is the preparation and training of musicians for careers in music education, performance, and studio teaching.

We are committed to providing a positive, inspiring, and motivating environment for all students who wish to participate in band at the college level.  Our large ensembles would not be complete without the participation of students majoring in other academic areas. We want all band members enjoy a creative experience that will help them develop into proficient and flexible musicians, prepared to make a contribution to their artistic community.

In addition, we are focused on maintaining a leadership role among state and regional colleges and universities in the areas of professional development and contribution to repertoire and literature. We hope that participation in UCO Bands will provide opportunities for musicians to create inspiring musical moments together, expanding their technical and aesthetic horizons.

Wind Symphony
Dr. Brian Lamb, Conductor

The University of Central Oklahoma Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Brian Lamb, is the premier performing ensemble in the Winds & Percussion Division of the UCO School of Music. During the last decade, they have performed for audiences at four Oklahoma Music Educators Conventions, a College Band Directors National Association Convention, the Society of Composers National Conference, and have played on both of the famed stages at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Since 2009, they have recorded three CD’s  on the Equilibrium Label, including works by composers Michael Daugherty, Michael Colgrass, David Maslanka and Carter Pann. These experiences have helped to shape these students and given them opportunities to record in historic Mitchell Hall and also have one on one experiences with the top composers of our generation.

Students audition the week before each term. For more information, please contact Dr. Brian Lamb,

With a rich heritage of traditional symphonic and military band literature, this group is able to also explore the work of contemporary composers.
