Dr. Mel Vaughan

Dr. Vaughan Headshot

I am a Professor in the Department of Biology and Program Coordinator for the Oklahoma INBRE program. I teach
Cell Biology courses and labs, and incorporate research into the curriculum of both. In the lab we
study the cell biology of the myofibroblast, the primary cell of wound healing, fibroses, and contractures
of connective tissues. I collaborate with other faculty through the Center for Interdisciplinary
Biomedical Education and Research (CIBER) in the College of Math and Science. I am also an affiliate member
of the Stephenson Cancer Center at OUHSC in Oklahoma City. I have involved numerous
graduate and undergraduate students in research projects supported by UCO, INBRE, McNair Scholars, and OK-LSAMP.
