Dr. Rebecca Williams

Headshot of Dr. Williams

I am currently the manager of the Selman Living Laboratory which is run under the auspices of the
University of Central Oklahoma Dean’s Office.  In addition I am an instructor in the Biology department.
I grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma so I am very much at home here at UCO.  From the time I was a toddler
I loved learning about insects, raising them and collecting them.  As I grew up I became more intrigued by insect
behavior and their interactions with plants and animals.  In high school I had the opportunity to work at
Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation where I became interested in microbiology and immunology.
My interest in these fields grew as I worked my way through college.  I earned my BS from Oklahoma State
University in Entomology with a focus in microbiology.  Because of my interest in microbiology I decided to go
to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and earned and M.S. in microbiology and immunology.
Through my experiences as a master’s student I realized that I wanted to be in the field more.
After completing my degree, I went to Oklahoma State University and earned my Ph.D.in Entomology
studying blow flies and house flies and their interactions with food borne pathogens.
I enjoy my position as the manager of the Selman Living Laboratory and love to get students out to the SLL.
