Professional Science Master's in Computational Science

Courses now available!

STEM+Business

UCO's Professional Science Master's in Computational Science combines graduate coursework in a chosen STEM major and management, along with an experiential capstone project, to produce graduates that are prepared to perform advanced computational analysis and manage projects in professional environments. Most of the management courses are part of UCO's Master's in Business Administration (MBA) MBA Program.

The PSM at UCO is part of the College of Mathematics and Science (CMS) Center for Research and Education in Interdisciplinary Computation (CREIC)

Developed with Industry Input

In developing this program we met with and listened to Oklahoma City (OKC) industry leaders about what they need in advanced STEM workforce. As a result the program has a strong management component.

No Thesis Required

This program is not a traditional M.S. degree. Rather than a research thesis PSM students gain real world experience in their capstone projects. These may be current issues in the student's place of employment or in other metropolitan OKC industry.

Flexibility and Convenience

The PSM is flexible due to the student's ability to select courses in their major area of interest. The student also chooses their project topic with approval of the program coordinator.

The convenience of the program is that classes are offered in the late afternoons and evenings so that working professionals may attend. Many classes meet at UCOdowntown in Downtown OKC.

PSM Computational Science Objectives

The Program Objectives (PO’s) of the Professional Science Master’s are to prepare science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduate students at UCO to:

PO1) Increase competitiveness in advancing their professional career.

PO2) Become experts in the workplace at applying computational techniques to their discipline.

PO3) Lead efforts to meet workplace goals using data, quantitative techniques, and business analytics.

PO4) Serve as a technical resource for communication to advance collaboration between disciplines in their organization.

PSM Majors

Student's specialize in an area of interest or major.

Computational Science - Computer Science, P.S.M. (Degree Sheet)

This major develops graduates that are technical experts in computer science or software engineering. Graduates will lead efforts in the workplace to meet goals using data, quantitative techniques, and business analytics. A graduate’s professional and communication skills will allow her/him to serve as lead technical resource for collaboration between units in her/his organization.

Computational Science - Computational Engineering, P.S.M. (Degree Sheet)

This major develops graduates that are technical experts in computational techniques used in various engineering disciplines. Graduates will lead efforts in the workplace to meet goals using data, quantitative techniques, and business analytics. A graduate’s professional and communication skills will allow her/him to serve as lead technical resource for collaboration between units in her/his organization.

Computational Science - Computational Mathematics, P.S.M. (Degree Sheet)

This major develops graduates that are technical experts in computational techniques used in mathematics and statistics. Graduates will lead efforts in the workplace to meet goals using data, quantitative techniques, and business analytics. A graduate’s professional and communication skills will allow her/him to serve as lead technical resource for collaboration between units in her/his organization.

Cost

Costs in a given semester depend on which specific courses students are taking. Here are the official UCO Tuition and Fees for 2016-2017.

Per credit hour Fees are as follows for required and elective PSM courses:

Tuition and Fee Category Resident Costs Non-Resident Costs
UCO Tuition and Mandatory Costs (all courses) $257.60 $597.60
MBA Courses Additional Fee $92.50 $92.50
Coll. of Business Courses Additional Fee $14.90 $14.90
Coll of Business Course Fee $45.22 $45.22
Coll. of Math. and Sci. Fee $45.35 $45.35

A 1-hour course in the Coll. of Math and Sci. would cost a total of $257.60 + $45.37 = $302.95 for an Oklahoma resident.

A 1-hour MBA course in the Coll. of Business would cost a total of $257.60 + $92.50 + $14.90 + $45.22 = $410.22 for an Oklahoma resident.

Total Program Tuition and Fee Costs

In total considering all PSM courses, the costs would be be as follows:

For an Oklahoma resident: $11,310

For a Non-resident: $22,870
