How to Become a UNIV Instructor

University courses (UNIV) are taught by faculty, staff, and administrators at the University of Central Oklahoma who are committed to first-year student learning, and success.

The minimum requirements to teach include:

  • Masters' degree or higher from an accredited institution (transcript required)
  • Completion of the Teaching Experience Workshop
  • Approval by the instructor's supervisor or department chair
  • Approval by the Director of New Student Success

Preferred qualifications include:

  • full or part-time employment elsewhere at UCO. It is our desire to encourage student connections to campus which can most often be best done by instructors with a primary role at Central in addition to their teaching duties.

Renewal decisions are based on additional criteria:

How do I apply?

Prospective instructors should submit the FYESS Adjunct Teaching Application along with required supporting documentation to First-Year Experience & Student Success, 100 N University Drive Edmond, OK 73034 or fye@uco.edu.

I applied. Now what?

Competitive applicants will be invited to meet with FYESS staff to discuss the opportunity of teaching the course, preferences regarding workshop dates, and next steps in the process. The application and selection process takes place primarily during the spring semester though hiring is ongoing on a rolling basis as needed.
