Study Abroad

Welcome to the Centre for Global Competency (CGC) at the University of Central Oklahoma!
The CGC was born out of UCO's mission of transformative learning and is a joint venture between the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Academic Affairs. We are committed to providing a range of education abroad programs such as international internships, short-term faculty-led courses, and over 50 semester programs abroad in more than 25 countries in various parts of the world. Through exchange agreements between UCO and our partner international institutions, you can remain enrolled as a UCO student while attending classes abroad. You may earn credits equivalent to a full-time course load, which can be applied as elective credits, university core requirements, foreign language requirements, or major/minor course requirements with departmental approval allowing you to make academic progress toward your degree while abroad.

In addition, the CGC provides the necessary guidance throughout your education abroad experience, including the process of obtaining the appropriate study visa, booking housing accommodations, ensuring the transferability of courses, applying for scholarships, and most importantly helping you navigate a meaningful study abroad experience. Our focus is on helping you develop greater intercultural competence by engaging in study abroad with curiosity, resilience, and reflection.

Application Announcement: The study abroad office is in the process of transitioning to a new application management system. Online applications for Spring 2019 study abroad programs will open in September 2018. The UCO deadline is October 1, 2018; students also must submit a separate program specific application by the respective exchange partner deadline. Please review the attached PDF for a list of UCO’s current Study Abroad Programs; click on the program name to link to additional information about each institution. Details about UCO’s study abroad process and required forms are provided on the second page of the PDF document.

Students who wish to travel with UCO faculty on short-term spring break, August intersession or summer opportunities abroad can select Study Tours in the menu to review recent program options. The Centre for Global Competency Travel Award application is available on the Study Abroad Funding page.
