Scholarship Prompt

James Baldwin states “the precise role of the artist, then, is to illuminate that darkness, blaze roads through that vast forest, so that we will not, in all our doing, lose sight of its purpose, which is, after all, to make the world a more human dwelling place.”  Below is the prompt for the scholarship essay. Please write a 500 (or more) word essay that clearly answers the prompt.

What do you consider to be the most important societal issue (i.e. darkness) Black males face and how will your future career goals and/or purpose in life, illuminate this issue?
