UCO’s LGBTQ+ Student Success Initiative

The LGBTQ+ Success Initiative welcomes all students for the purpose of promoting a sense of belonging and addressing the academic, social and psychological needs of students who identify as LGBTQ+. These goals are accomplished through a wide range of intentionally designed and carefully coordinated co-curricular and social programs, including:

  • community building,
  • mentoring,
  • personal and academic support,
  • and professional and career planning.

UCO’s LGBTQ+ Student Success Initiative is now accepting applications! This initiative offers LGBTQIA+ and allied students a range of ways to get involved on campus and with their community.

Students with the LGBTQ+ SSI will have lots of opportunities throughout the year to work with community initiatives across campus and build their STLR portfolios. We’ll also help students apply for particularly relevant scholarships-and students who are mentees in the SSI program this year will train to become mentors in future years, building their campus resumes and networks.

Monthy Social Event and Campus Connection Events

Each month, LGBTQ+ Student Success Initiative students and mentors will meet for community and connection at one social and one campus networking event. We’ll have cookouts, movie nights, and an outing to Edmond Pride to help students get to know each other; we’ll also bring in speakers from departments and LGBTQIA+ programs across our campus to help students build connections and networks on-campus.

Peer Mentors to Guide your First Semester

Students will work with peer mentors to learn valuable study skills—and make a connection with our campus community right away! Peer mentors will help new students find their place on campus and the right pace for their classes.

Cohort Class Opportunities

Our LGBT+ SSI students will build relationships with their peers in special cohort sections; more information regarding these cohort classes will be given at a later date.
