Become a Peer Health Leader

The Peer Health Leadership program is a component of the UCO Wellness Center which provides education, support, and resources to advance the health of students at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities Involve:

  • Serve as an ambassador for health on the UCO campus
  • Design, organize, and participate in campus-wide health programs
  • Create, market, and present outreach programs
  • Staff health information booths
  • Conduct health presentations and programs for the campus community
  • Active involvement in UCO's Healthy Campus Leadership Team



  • Gain extensive knowledge about health topics relevant to the college student population, such as nutrition, physical activity, stress, sexual health, etc.
  • Become part of a highly skilled team of students committed to improving the health of the UCO community
  • Develop leadership, communication, and presentation skills
  • Become a recognized member of the UCO Healthy Campus Leadership Team
  • Semester tuition waiver (amounts vary)


A strong Peer Health Leader applicant should possess the following qualities:

  • Demonstrated leadership on campus or in the community
  • Knowledge of health and wellness issues relevant to UCO & Oklahoma communities
  • Passion and creativity for promoting health among peers
  • Open to various cultures, practices, and sexual orientations
  • Demonstrate empathy for the well-being and quality of life of others
  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA


Semester requirements include:

  • Peer Health Leader orientation
  • Bi-monthly team meetings
  • 25 hours of volunteer service per semester
  • 2 semester commitment to the program
