UCO Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation

Wheelchair Basketball

Wheelchair Basketball is designed specifically for individuals with physical disabilities. It's played on a standard basketball court and the same rules and scoring system apply. The UCO Wellness Center will provide the chairs and instruction on how to move in the chairs if one is not familiar with it.

Goalball is an indoor court game that is designed for visually impaired athletes. Goalball is a completely auditory and tactile game, as all players are blindfolded so that every player is totally blind. The game is played on an indoor court the size of a volleyball court. Goalball is played with three players on each side and the goal of the game is to try and role or throw the ball into the other opponents goal.

The UCO Wellness Center has four hand cycles that are available for students to use, as well as seven upright bikes to be used.

Sitting Volleyball

In sitting volleyball, the net is about 3.5 feet high, and the court is 10 x 6 meters with a two-meter attack line. Players are allowed to block serves, but one "cheek" must be in contact with the floor whenever they make contact with the ball. UCO will offer instruction on how to play the game.

Canoeing/Kayaking is the use of a boat and paddle to move across the water. UCO has a fleet of Kayaks, Canoes and adaptive equipment that anyone can use. Instructions will be provided before each session to all participants
