Our Director

Dr. Churchill

Lindsey Churchill is an Associate Professor of History in the Department of History and Geography at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is the creator and Director of the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor. In 2015 she worked with the campus community to create the Center which includes the Women's Research Center and the BGLTQ+ Student Center. Her book Becoming the Tupamaros: Solidarity and Transnational Revolutionaries in Uruguay and the United States was published in February 2014 by Vanderbilt University Press.  Churchill worked as a Fulbright Specialist in Latvia in 2016. She is the recipient of the Oklahoma Human Rights Award from the United Nations Association and Oklahoma University Human Rights Association (2016).

Our Assistant Director

Dr. Lorry Youll

Lorry Youll, PhD, is the Assistant Director of the Women’s Research Center and BGLTQ+ Student Center. She is a full, tenured professor in the Department of Psychology and is licensed as a psychologist in the state of Oklahoma. She also serves as Program Coordinator for the master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Youll teaches graduate courses in counseling, assessment, ethics, and culture and gender diversity. She has mentored students on STLR and RCSA grants from across campus and has presented at local, national, and international conferences. Her areas of study are reproductive health advocacy, diversity, and health psychology.


 

Our Student Researchers

Mickayla Fisher

Mickayla Fisher

Mickayla received her bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). She is pursuing her master's degree at UCO in History. Mickayla’s areas of focus are in African diaspora, prison history, and gender and sexuality. She works for the Women's Research Center and BGLTQ+ Student Center (The Center) as the student manager and the project coordinator for the Reproductive Justice Campus Action Network.

Andrew Traxler

Andrew Traxler Head Student Librarian, Liaison and Asst. Manger of the Center. Andy received his Bachelor’s in History at the University of Central Oklahoma. He is currently a Master’s in History Candidate concentrating on Native American History. Andy was worked as an International Gender and Sexuality Studies Conference assistant and has had experience in LGBTQ+ activism in Oklahoma City since 2000. 

Joshua Stone

Joshua Stone is a graduate student studying Latin America and Environmental History. He also completed his B.A. Ed. in History Education from UCO in 2013. His work with the Center includes grant and institutional research as well as outreach on the UCO campus.

Savannah Waters

Savannah Waters Savannah Waters is a history graduate student with a focus on American Indian History. Savannah is an assistant manager for the Women’s Research Center and BGLTQ+ Student Center. She is a student researcher for the partnership between The Center and Edmond Historic Preservation Trust that has created a living history program for the Edmond

AnaMarie Lopez

AnaMarie Lopez AnaMarie is currently studying interpersonal communications as a sophomore and is a student researcher and Sexual Health Ambassador with the Center.

Bridget Cuadra

Bridget Cuadra Bridget Cuadra is a student in the History and Geography department. She is a senior, working toward a B.A. in History and a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Bridget is a student researcher for the Center. She also gives library tours and does campus outreach, including tabling.

Jennifer Phillips

Jennifer Phillips Jennifer graduated with her Bachelor's in History with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Going into her master’s degree, she is focusing on Latin America and the US. Her thesis will focus on Human Trafficking in the Western Hemisphere. Afterwards, she will apply for Law School for International Human Rights. Her research topics include Drag Queen history, the waves of feminism, and women's reproductive rights. Engaging with the center has made a significant difference in Jennifer’s life, giving her a rich and diverse outlook. Learning about gender and sexuality has led her down a path where she can better serve the community and help people internationally.

Jacob Jardel

Jacob Jardel is a graduate student in English with a focus in Composition/Rhetoric. A former Sexual Health Ambassador, he is the current Managing Editor for Central Dissent: A Journal of Gender and Sexuality and has worked on Center projects involving pornography and polyamory. Jacob’s research interests include misconceptions of sexual and romantic orientations, BGLTQ+ representation in media, and rhetorical analysis of media using queer and feminist lenses.

Erica Burwell-Love

Erica Burwell-Love Erica is a Political Science Pre-Law major and Gender and Sexuality Studies minor at UCO. In the Center, she is a Program Coordinator and Intern of the Edmond Historical Trust, a Research Assistant, and the Condom Resource Coordinator for UCO Housing.

Crista Mooney

Crista Mooney Crista Mooney currently attends the University of Central Oklahoma as a double major in Psychology and French. She is the social media coordinator for The Center, and her student research project is the Herland Gender and Sexuality Studies Library. Her future plans include going to graduate school for her master’s and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in LGBTQ+ youth.

Joshua Mitchell-Arbital

Joshua Mitchell-Arbital Joshua is a senior Forensics and Sociology major at UCO and works in the Center as a Sexual Health Ambassador.

Ariel Yeoman

Ariel Yeoman Ariel Yeoman is a Psychology major at the University of Central Oklahoma with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She works at the Women's Research and BGLTQ+ Student Center as a Student Researcher. Her independent project is an art series over Transgender Identity. Ariel hopes to eventually be a counselor for the LGBT community.

Katelyn Sargeant

Katelyn Sargeant Katelyn is a Psychology major with double minors in Biology and French. She is a Student Researcher and Assistant to Laura Moore. Katelyn works on a multitude of projects and helps others in their research projects as well.

Catherine Potts

Catherine Potts Catherine is a Psychology Major and Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor who interns for the Women’s Research and BGLTQ+ Student Center. She is a huge bookworm and new activist.

Asheley Middleton

Asheley Middleton Asheley is a Psychology student with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is the Sexual Health Ambassador's coordinator at The Center and is passionate about teaching her peers about sex education. When she finishes school, she plans to be a sex therapist.

Angela Vega

Angela Vega Angela is a Community/ Public Health junior at UCO. She works in the Center as a Sexual Health Ambassador and her areas of interest Sexual Health Educator/ Health Education Specialist.

Laura Moore

Laura Moore Laura is an undergraduate Psychology student with a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies. A former Sexual Health Ambassador, they currently work as a student researcher and as Dr. Lindsey Churchill’s assistant. They have worked on projects concerning pornography and polyamory and have helped coordinate events such as the Center’s annual International Gender and Sexuality Studies conference. Laura hopes to stay at UCO for their Master’s in Counseling Psychology and plans to become a sex therapist as well as a university professor.

Ashley Cooks

Ashley Cooks Ashley Cooks is a junior Organizational Communications major and Gender and Sexuality Studies minor at the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a Sexual Health Ambassador and concentrates on education within the African-American community.

Andrew Hedges

Andrew Hedges Andrew is a sophomore Psychology major and Gender and Sexuality Studies minor at UCO. As a Sexual Health Ambassador, he researches conversion therapy in Oklahoma.

Alyssa Diamond

Alyssa Diamond Alyssa is an undeclared sophomore and a sexual health ambassador for the Center. For her junior year, she plans to transfer and major in astronomy. By holding a position as a Sexual Health Ambassador, she wishes to bring the facts about sexual health and sexuality to the people she encounters and instill confidence in them by doing so.

Rosemary Brandley

Rosemary Brandley Rosemary Brandley is a Sexual Health Ambassador and OU-Clinic student representative for the 18-19 school year. She works with the Women’s Research and BGLTQ+ Student Center, and the OU Physicians Health and Wellness Clinic at UCO to educate the community about safer sex and gender equality. She believes education is the best prevention. After spending nearly a decade as a ballerina, she knows what it means to be responsible for physical performance and mental health. Rosemary aspires to pursue a career in psychology and become a professor at a university. When she is not working, Rosemary enjoys exploring with her dog, spending time with friends, and learning about rock and roll.

Charles Spells

Charles Spells Charles is a Public Health and Forensic Science senior at UCO. He works in the Center as a Sexual Health Ambassador and researches perceptions of stalking on college campuses.

Olliever Buchanan

Olliever Buchanan Olliever Buchanan is a Student Researcher at the Women's Research Center and BGLTQ+ Student Center who manages and oversees the Community Closet. They are also a board member for Edmond Pride. They are a biology major at UCO and are working on providing more updated research studies and resources for the STEM field in regards to LGBT+ issues here at UCO.
