Graduation Information

Congratulations!  You are one step closer to being ready to graduate with your degree from the University of Central Oklahoma!  Below you will find some very important information about graduation and pinning.  Please contact your SNA class representative if you have any questions.

Your UCO Student Nurses Association dues pay for your pictures, pins, pinning ceremony, and Senior Celebration.  Traditional students pay $10 each semester, Career Advancement Students pay $50 the semester they are admitted to the program. Dues should be paid to one the SNA officers.  Graduate students pay individually for pins and pictures and should check the Nursing, MS Community page for more information.

One semester prior to graduation:

Graduating students should apply for graduation and pay fees.  See graduation central for more information and application deadlines.  Information, applications and deadlines are not the same for baccalaureate graduates and masters graduates, so be sure to select the appropriate application.

Graduation semester:

All graduating students should have a senior photograph taken.  Dates are scheduled by the Student Leadership Faculty Advisor.  Check with the SNA Leadership team or a member of the Student Affairs Committee for dates.  Students graduating with a masters degree should check with the graduate coordinator.

Once the graduate project or thesis is completed, students completing a masters degree should schedule their project or thesis defense with their committee prior to graduation.  More information can be found on the Nursing, MS Community page or from the graduate coordinator.

Senior Celebration

Senior celebration is your opportunity to get together with your class and review the highlights of your nursing program.

Pinning Ceremony

The school pin of the Department of Nursing is conferred twice a year during the Pinning Ceremony at the close of the Spring and Fall semesters.  Baccalaureate and Masters nursing students who have completed all degree requirements are eligible to receive this pin.  The ceremony is held on campus sometime during the weekend of graduation.  Following the ceremony is a reception held to honor graduates.

The pinning ceremony will be planned by a pinning committee.  Speak to someone on the SNA Leadership team or a member of the Student Affairs Committee if you are interested in assisting.

Pinning practice typically takes place a day or two before the pinning ceremony.  Contact the SNA Leadership team for the specific date and time.

Proper attire for pinning and graduation consists of the cap and gown (and hood for masters graduates).  Students are encouraged to wear their Sigma Theta Tau International, Alpha Chi and/or Mortar Board, SNA recognition symbols (e.g., cords, medals, etc.) and others as appropriate.  The cap and gown should be purchased from the bookstore.  See graduation central for more information.

If you are a Sophomore, Junior 1, Junior 2, or Senior 1 your assistance is needed as an usher, server, and for set-up and clean-up for the ceremony.  Contact your class liaison to assist.
