Student Organizations

At the University of Central Oklahoma we want you to get involved.  Below you will find ways in which you can be involved while you are in the nursing program.


The University of Central Oklahoma Student Nurses’ Association is the Student Government organization for the Department of Nursing.  Membership in the University of Central Oklahoma Student Nurses’ Association is open to all nursing majors and is required for all students admitted to the upper division of the Nursing Program.  

Monthly meetings are held on campus.  Announcements and/or posters will be posted ONE WEEK PRIOR to each meeting stating the program and place of  the meeting. 

This association is affiliated with the National Student Nurses’ Association,  whose purpose is to assume responsibility for contributing to nursing education in order to provide for the highest quality in health care, to provide programs representative of fundamental and current professional interests and concerns, and to aid in the development of the whole person, their professional role, and their responsibility for health care.

Class Representatives   

The Executive Committee of the UCO SNA will include:

  • President

Each class will elect representatives to the UCO SNA Student Leadership Council.  These positions are:

  • Class Liaison
  • Special Event Coordinator
  • Fundraising Coordinator
  • Philanthropies Coordinator

The Oklahoma Nursing Student Association

The Oklahoma Nursing student association strives to provide opportunities that complement education, aid in the development of future nursing leaders and act as a resource for professional networking. Students enrolled in the nursing program are members of the UCO SNA chapter. This organization helps students develop the leadership skills that are important to the nurse who is educated at the bachelor's level.  More information can be found on the Oklahoma Nursing Student Association website.

The National Student Nurses' Association

The National Student Nurses' Association has over 45,000 members in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This student led organization has two non voting consultants who are appointed by the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing. Two conferences are held each year where students come together to participate in leadership and career development activities, listen to renowned nursing leaders, hear about job opportunities and network with hundreds of other students.  More information can be found on the National Student Nurses' Association website.

Sigma Theta Tau International 

The University of Central Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist  University, Oklahoma City University, Southern Nazarene University, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University form the Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society for Nursing.  

The purposes of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) are to: 

  • recognize superior achievement
  • recognize the development of leadership qualities
  • foster high professional standards
  • encourage creative work
  • strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession

Eligibility requirements are an overall G.P.A. of at least 3.0 or higher and a ranking in the upper 35% of the class.  In addition, the student must have completed at least half of the required nursing courses.  Professional leadership potential and ability in nursing are important characteristics of students inducted each year.  Induction into Sigma Theta Tau is held during the Fall and Spring semester of the school year.

The Fellowship of Christian Nurses

This is a student led group at the University of Central Oklahoma. Membership is open to all nursing and pre-nursing students.
