Rozilyn Miller Named Associate Dean

Dr. Rozilyn MillerRozilyn Miller, Ph.D., has been appointed associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts, effective Jan. 7. She has served as assistant dean of the college since 2016. Provost John Barthell said Dr. Miller's expertise in program review, curriculum, and facilities management have been invaluable to the college. Dr. Miller, a professor of Mass Communication, has served as director of the Leadership Minor since 2009. Prior to assuming her current role, she was department chairperson for Mass Communication from 2009-16.

Dr. Miller holds a bachelor's in communication from the University of Central Oklahoma, a master's in speech/theatre from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate in instructional leadership and academic curriculum from the University of Oklahoma. Since arriving at UCO in 1997, she has received many accolades, including the 2008 Liberal Arts Outstanding Service Award, the 2003 Oklahoma Speech Theater Communication Association Fred Tewell Outstanding Communication Professor Award and the 2002 Liberal Arts Outstanding Creative Activity Award. Initially hired as the Speech, Drama and Debate Secondary Education Certification program coordinator, she founded the Individual Events Forensics Team in 1997 and coached the team to national championships in three events in 2004.

"Dr. Miller is widely known across campus for the impressive work ethic, professionalism and enthusiastic engagement she brings to projects, Dr. Barthell said. "I look forward to working with her in support of the metropolitan mission of the University of Central Oklahoma."

Construction Begins on Liberal Arts' First Major Expansion

As we approach the halfway point on construction of the Liberal Arts' expansion, the new south facade rises from the bare red dirt (and frequently mud) where Pegasus Theatre once stood. Construction trailers are still abuzz with activity and the brick exterior of the new portion of the building grows, row by row.

The project will expand and modernize the Liberal Arts building, adding 55,000 square feet of classroom and office space, as well as a new auditorium and student meeting spaces.

The $17 million expansion is the first major renovation in the Liberal Arts building’s 50-year history. Ground was broken on the project in November 2017 and construction of the new addition is expected to be completed by late summer/fall of 2019.

The university’s Architectural and Engineering Services and Lippert Bros. construction have established a website that streams live images of construction, as well as information and architect's renderings of the completed project. Find out more at the Liberal Arts Renovation and Addition page.
